A conservation community respecting nature, people, and design.

About the Houses

Sustainable, livable, lovable.

Homes Create the Community:

...and they will reflect the quality of life valued by the inhabitants. Energy efficient and sustainable, the houses will fit in with the local vernacular and quaint style of the mountain. Modeled loosely on the houses of the Monteagle Assembly, character, style, and welcoming atmosphere will be infused throughout the neighborhood.

Sewanee Close is responsible to the environment and to the community. Houses will be either LEED Certified or Earthcraft Certified, meaning that a third party verifies that they are energy efficient, healthy, conserve water and resources, and that there is minimal waste, pollution, and erosion during construction.

From the LEED for Homes Website:

LEED for Homes is a rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. A green home uses less energy, water and natural resources; creates less waste; and is healthier and more comfortable for the occupants. Benefits of a LEED home include lower energy and water bills; reduced greenhouse gas emissions; and less exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins. The net cost of owning a LEED home is comparable to that of owning a conventional home.

The developed footprint containing the homes is only 20% of the total community owned land, reducing the disturbance to the woodlands.

Houses will also be designed with Universal Design and Aging in Place features that allow accessibility to all.

The Houses range from 1200 sq ft to 3200 sq ft and will include detached garages with apartment space above. For sample house plans see link. (link)

The houses provide: privacy, light, sanctuary, peace, gardens, and warm social areas.

The neighborhood plan has layers of private and public spaces, benches and fountains, village greens, pedestrian walkways, miles of trails
